Students will learn first-hand about different crops (vegetables, coconut, banana, tea, coffee, rice, rubber, cashew, spices, pineapple, etc.), their production techniques, and meet growers and entrepreneurs who find innovative ways to solve agricultural problems within a market economy. Students will visit regional vegetable, spice, and flower markets and have an opportunity to interact with students at the Kerala Agricultural University. In addition to agriculture, students will visit historic and cultural sites, temples and palaces, arts centers, backwaters, and get an immersive experience of food, culture, and traditions. The program will also include a visit to New Delhi and the immortal memorial, the Taj Mahal.
Participating students will earn 3 credits of Hort 4960 or Globe 4960 during the fall 2025 semester. This course fulfills the International Perspectives Requirement. This course has a pre-departure course component and a travel component.
This program was last offered in fall 2023, with travel over winter break 2023-2024.
