Soils, Crops and Natural Resources of Costa Rica - Spring Break 2026

This study abroad program will聽explore agricultural systems, natural resources, and resource聽management in Costa Rica. Students will learn about the soils, crops, and environment of Costa Rica while gaining an appreciation of and respect for Costa Rican culture, the Spanish language, and Costa Rica nationalism. Stops will include interactions with many farmers who have a history with this ISU course - coffee, highland fruits, organic vegetables, sugarcane, pineapple, and spice production.

Integrated Management of Tropical Crops in Costa Rica - Spring Break

Program dates are tentative and subject to change

This program provides an introduction to the production of a wide variety of tropical crops (coffee, banana, pineapple, mango, sugar cane, cut flowers, vegetables, papaya, etc.) from the perspective of Costa Rica. The class also explores Costa Rican ecology, history, and culture. Close cooperation with the University of Costa Rica allows many unique opportunities to interact with UCR students and faculty.聽
